Our School
Our school is proud to be named The Detective WenJian Liu School of Civics and Entrepreneurship, honoring the memory of Detective WenJian Liu, an Asian community hero who lost his life protecting our neighborhood in 2014. The school opened in September 2024 on the border of Borough Park and Dyker Heights in Brooklyn.
At P.S. 331, we envision a nurturing and inclusive learning environment where we believe that every student can and will acquire the essential skills necessary for success in life. Our commitment is to foster 21st-century global citizens, empowering graduates with a profound understanding of entrepreneurial pathways, financial literacy, and strong communication and technology skills, with a dedicated focus on world languages.
As a new school, we will start with kindergarten and grow one grade each year up to 5th grade. Currently, we offer a General Education class, an Integrated Co-Teaching (ICT) class, and a Chinese Mandarin Bilingual Special Education (BSE 12:1:1) class. We are co-located with a D75 program, 372K The Children's School, and share resources and events to promote inclusion within our community.
Our diverse school community speaks a variety of languages at home, including English, Spanish, Chinese (various dialects), Georgian, Hungarian, and Uzbek. Our multilingual staff ensures that all students and their families feel safe and welcome. To build and promote school culture, we hold monthly student assemblies, parent workshops, and family fun events, ensuring that everyone is informed and engaged in our community.
We are fortunate to be in a brand-new building equipped with the latest technology and an oversized schoolyard with a playground. Our specialty rooms include a STEM lab, Arts Project room, Music room, Exercise room, and a Gymnasium/Multipurpose room. Every classroom features a Promethean board and a computer cart with Apple MacBook Air laptops, as well as a printer. Teachers amplify the core curriculum to meet individual students' needs. All our students learn Chinese(Mandarin) as a world language.
For the 2024-2025 school year, we are excited to offer a free afterschool program led by NIA, funded through public support and CASA grants from Council member Susan Zhuang and Senator Iwen Chu. We have partnered with the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music to provide Music and Movement classes and worked with LEAP to deliver the Learning Literacy through the Arts program and Tomorrow's Entrepreneurs projects.
We prioritize students' well-being with daily standalone social-emotional learning sessions, helping them build coping skills and learn strategies to decrease stress, self-regulate, and regain focus. Our partnership with Brain Power Wellness supports this initiative. Additionally, NYU Langone Dental Clinic will be housed in our school, providing free dental care and classroom instruction.
