Social Studies/Civics for All

The “NYC Passport to Social Studies” curriculum serves as a comprehensive and engaging educational framework designed for students in Kindergarten through 5th grade within the New York City public school system. Developed to foster a deep understanding of social studies concepts, this curriculum goes beyond traditional teaching methods to create a dynamic learning experience. With a focus on building essential skills such as critical thinking, inquiry, and civic participation, “NYC Passport to Social Studies” provides students with a passport to explore the rich tapestry of history, geography, economics, and civics. By integrating diverse perspectives and utilizing interactive resources, the curriculum aims to empower students with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate an increasingly interconnected and complex world. Through its thoughtful design and alignment with New York State standards, this curriculum strives to cultivate informed, thoughtful, and active citizens.  To find out more about the curriculum, please visit the site below.

The K–12 Civics for All curriculum exists to provide high-quality civic learning opportunities to all students. The curriculum, aligned to the NYSED Social Studies Framework and the Next Generation Learning Standards, is a companion to Passport to Social Studies. It was designed to be flexible and is intended to be modified and adapted to fit the needs of all New York City classrooms. Each grade-banded curriculum resource includes guidance on quality civics instruction, lessons and projects based on key civics themes, and an outlined process for engaging students in civic action projects.
